CLEVELAND, OHIO – Moments ago, the U.S. Supreme Court published its opinion in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case: the 6-3 decision, a draft of which was leaked to the media nearly last month, overturns Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
In light of the Dobbs decision, Cleveland Right to Life will be holding a press conference at 3:00 p.m. today at the foot of the Carl B. Stokes U.S. Courthouse, 801 West Superior Avenue in Cleveland. Representing Cleveland Right to Life will be Executive Director Kate Makra and President Molly Smith. Ohio District 13 Senator Jerry Cirino and others are also expected to speak on this historic day.
Cleveland Right to Life joins the entire pro-life community across the country in celebrating this decision. “Roe and Casey have been a blight on the American judicial landscape for nearly five decades,” said Kate Makra, Executive Director of Cleveland Right to Life. “There is no constitutional right to abortion, and I am heartened that the Supreme Court has finally acknowledged that. Tragically, the decision has come too late for the more than 63 million innocent souls who have been slaughtered in the womb in the name of choice since 1973.”
“The decision by the Supreme Court today is long overdue and removes a 50 year fabricated “right” that ignored the personhood of the unborn child,” noted Cleveland Right to Life President Molly Smith. “While this decision does not end abortion in our nation, it makes it more likely that unborn children will be treated as human beings and be afforded the same rights as their mothers and fathers.”
While we applaud this decision, our work is far from over. Cleveland Right to Life will continue its fight to protect our most vulnerable citizens from pre-birth to natural death. To that end, we urge Ohio lawmakers to enact the most stringent laws possible to protect human life in the womb and provide hope and assistance for their mothers. As Thomas Jefferson wrote, “The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government.”
